My Favorite Book, And A Little Of My Story + writing update!!

Hi guys! It’s been a bit. I’m a horrible blogger. But that’s okay. πŸ™ƒ I just have a couple things I wanted to talk about. First off: sorry for being so absent here! Life is nuts. But, *drumroll please* I’VE BEEN WRITING!!! I’m almost halfway through writing my historical(ish) fantasy myth retelling!! I started officially writing it January 1st and can’t believe I’ve made it this far. I hope you guys want to read it someday! In other news: there’s a book coming out later this month that I absolutely ADORE and I wanted to share a bit of why with you guys. I’ll try to avoid spoilers, but there may be some minor ones, so fair warning. Mary Weber’s To Best The Boys is for everyone who’s been told you can’t. You shouldn’t. It’s not your place. Do this, not that. All Rhen Tellur wants is to study science. To find a cure for her sick mother. To help her community. She’s losing hope. People are dying. Desperate for the chance for a better education, (and to get the attention of people who c

Oh the irony.

Hi guys! Sooo, last week I was talking about learning how to rest, and how I’m terrible at it. And this week, I’m forced into resting, due to a head cold. God’s sense of humor is kind of annoying sometimes. But, I HAVE gotten a bunch of books read this week! I finished 6 books over the last week and 2 novellas, and will DEFINITELY get more reading done today because I can’t do much else at the moment. First up: Renegade Skyfarer by R. J. Metcalf! I LOVE this book you guys! Think Firefly team dynamic, dragons, disguises, and one VERY cute guardian, and I’m ALL OVER IT. The sequel releases later this fall, and I HIGHLY recommend starting this series!! City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab I’m not a big Middle Grade reader, but this little monster is BRILLIANT! If you like slightly scary stories that’ll give you the creeps and leave you wanting more, this is the book for you! I’d recommend it for mature middle grade just in case your kids (or youπŸ˜‰) are prone to nightmares. A Rumo

Life, Books, and Learning to Rest

Guys, confession time: I SUCK at self-care. There, I said it. I’m a try to do ALL THE THINGS girl. And I end up an exhausted wreck. Every. Time. I keep telling myself I’ll do better, I’ll take some time for me, get some writing done, go to the gym, get to bed earlier, whatever I feel like I need to do to get my energy levels back up. And it NEVER HAPPENS. I’m realizing that that needs to change. Life has been INSANE lately, especially with my day job, and I’m getting to the point where my body is telling me to REST.  So I might be posting less often, and there will be a few more books per post, but I’ll still be around, I promise. I just need to take care of me for a bit. That being said, I have finished a few books in the last couple weeks! The Defiance Trilogy by CJ Redwine ALL THE YES TO THESE BOOKS!! Also, the most “me” quote EVER can be found in book 2. It may or may not refer to the stubbornness of a particular character. πŸ˜‚ Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge Not quite wha

Strong Female Characters for the win!!!

Hi guys! How is it Monday again already? πŸ™‡πŸΌ‍♀️ I’m not a fan of Mondays. But I’m working on it. I’m hoping a really good playlist will help me not be cranky today. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‚ In random news, my niece turned 2 on Friday. She’s growing WAAAAAYYY too fast. But she’s an adorable little munchkin, so it’s forgivable. ❤️ The day job has been kind of nuts, but Somehow, I finished three books this week! In order, they are: Sanctuary by Carolyn Lix Not my favorite read for sci-fi, but not bad. I’m curious as to where the story will go from here, but it felt kind of like an Illuminae files/Zenith wannabe. Not in a bad way really, but it just didn’t grab me as much as I wish it had. Solid 3 1/2 Stars, and I hope the sequel gets better. 😬 Amber Eyes by S D Grimm WHAT THE HECK?! I need the sequel (Black Blood, a pic from the cover reveal is on my insta, feel free to gawk at the pretty!!) NOW. WHY do we have to wait until January?! Needless to say, Amber Eyes is quite a ride, if you haven’t r

July’s end, Realm Makers, and writing pitches!

Hi guys! HOW is it August already?! Seriously I can’t even. 😬🀷🏼‍♀️ July was CRAZY. I was busy, and pretty stressed, but thankfully life is slowing down some. Realm Makers was AMAZING. It was my first time flying anywhere,  thus the above mentioned stress, but the flights were uneventful. The conference itself absolutely FLEW by, and I wish it hadn’t. I miss my people. Hugs to all of you Realmies reading this! ❤️😘 Sooo, at Realm Makers my lovely friend Nadine Brandes taught a workshop on how to pitch your novel, and while it’s not written yet, I have an AWESOME pitch for my WIP! I might share it here someday when I’ve gotten a bit more written. πŸ˜‰ Since I barely posted any in July because life is crazy, here’s a rundown of what I read between my last post and now! The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon I read this for a buddy read through the month of July, and I LOVED it! The characters are fascinating, flawed, and complex, and the world is vivid and full of some pretty crazy

Heat waves and reading slowly

Hi guys! How hot is it where you live? It was 107 in my hometown on Friday and Saturday and I am OVER it.  I’ve never been a fan of summer. When I was a kid, summer was when we got a huge box of books that we weren’t allowed to read yet (I was homeschooled, so they were for school, but as I liked school, I didn’t want to wait for fall to start reading them). Sure, summers had some fun things, but they were pretty boring. Now, I work in an office and sit right under the air conditioner, so HELLO LAYERS because inside it’s freezing, and outside you’ll die if you stay out more than 15 seconds. Does anyone else feel like they read slower in the summer? I haven’t had much else to do, I just can’t seem to read at my usual speed when it gets over 95 degrees out. So I only finished one book this week. My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows Sooo fun! I’m a HUGE fan of Jane Eyre, and this twist is an adorable, intelligent, and slightly ridiculous version of the cl

Trope Tuesday!!!

It’s Trope Tuesday!! What this means (in case you weren’t paying attention), is I’ll be talking a bit today about tropes! What’s a trope, you ask? A trope is a common or overused literary theme or device, and in some cases a clichΓ©. What’re some of your favorite tropes? In speculative fiction, some of the top tropes are dragons, witches, and The Chosen One. In romance, there’s usually a handsome rogue and the beautiful penniless orphan (and a lot of others, but romance isn’t my favorite genre. Because suuuuper repetitive storylines. 😴) I could go on with more examples from other genres, but I think you get the picture. πŸ˜‰ One of my personal favorite tropes is the Madwoman In The Attic. What makes everyone think she’s mad? Why did they lock her in the attic? What if there’s more to the story? Someday, I want to write a story that instead of a MadWOMAN in the attic, it’s a MadMAN, because WHY IS IT ALWAYS A WOMAN?! πŸ™„πŸ˜’ And I think it could be really interesting to see h
