Heat waves and reading slowly

Hi guys! How hot is it where you live? It was 107 in my hometown on Friday and Saturday and I am OVER it.  I’ve never been a fan of summer. When I was a kid, summer was when we got a huge box of books that we weren’t allowed to read yet (I was homeschooled, so they were for school, but as I liked school, I didn’t want to wait for fall to start reading them). Sure, summers had some fun things, but they were pretty boring. Now, I work in an office and sit right under the air conditioner, so HELLO LAYERS because inside it’s freezing, and outside you’ll die if you stay out more than 15 seconds. Does anyone else feel like they read slower in the summer? I haven’t had much else to do, I just can’t seem to read at my usual speed when it gets over 95 degrees out. So I only finished one book this week. My Plain Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows Sooo fun! I’m a HUGE fan of Jane Eyre, and this twist is an adorable, intelligent, and slightly ridiculous version of the cl

Trope Tuesday!!!

It’s Trope Tuesday!! What this means (in case you weren’t paying attention), is I’ll be talking a bit today about tropes! What’s a trope, you ask? A trope is a common or overused literary theme or device, and in some cases a clichรฉ. What’re some of your favorite tropes? In speculative fiction, some of the top tropes are dragons, witches, and The Chosen One. In romance, there’s usually a handsome rogue and the beautiful penniless orphan (and a lot of others, but romance isn’t my favorite genre. Because suuuuper repetitive storylines. ๐Ÿ˜ด) I could go on with more examples from other genres, but I think you get the picture. ๐Ÿ˜‰ One of my personal favorite tropes is the Madwoman In The Attic. What makes everyone think she’s mad? Why did they lock her in the attic? What if there’s more to the story? Someday, I want to write a story that instead of a MadWOMAN in the attic, it’s a MadMAN, because WHY IS IT ALWAYS A WOMAN?! ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜’ And I think it could be really interesting to see h

July plans, current reads, and my GIANT TBR

How is it July already?! I’m slowly losing my mind, because I’m less than 3 weeks away from my first plane trip EVER. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ BUT, it’s to Realm Makers, so I’m so. freaking. excited!!! Anyone else heading to St. Louis? That’s pretty much my only big thing happening this month, but for me, it’s kind of the biggest thing ever. ๐Ÿ˜‚ This week I finished 3 books! In order, they are: When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon It’s ADORABLE. Fluffy, funny, sweet and a fun read. ๐Ÿ˜Š From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon It reads a bit younger than WDMR, but the characters are younger, so it *gasp* makes sense that they act/sound younger. Again, a cute and fun summery read! Sons of Blackbird Mountain by Joanne Bischof Barnes and Noble sent my copy early, so this one actually releases TOMORROW! But HOLY COW I LOVE THIS BOOK! It didn’t make me cry like The Lady and The Lionheart did, but I came close. It’s gorgeously written, and a beautiful story, and I can’t recommend it enough. ❤️ My curr
